Celebrate Literacy Week 2018

Celebrate Literacy Week 2018

Join us in supporting early literacy Jan 22.-26, 2018

The Just Read, Florida! Office and the Florida Department of Education (FDOE), in partnership with other FDOE offices, the Office of Early Learning, school districts, early learning coalitions and numerous other state agencies, are pleased to announce the tenth annual statewide Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida!

The event will take place the week of Jan. 22-26, 2018. Please join us in celebrating literacy by encouraging providers to participate in our simultaneous reading activity on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 9 a.m. (EST). Providers can support this effort to promote literacy in their homes, centers and schools by reading Over in the Ocean in a Coral Reef by Marianne Berkes for infants and toddlers, and Big Al by Andrew Clements for 3- to 5-year-olds.

Save the date for the 2018 Children’s Week

Annual celebration will feature Hanging of the Hands, Children’s Day at the Capitol and more events

Florida’s Children’s Week is a special annual celebration filled with fun activities for children, the colorful “Hanging of Hands,” resources for parents, providers and advocates, and the dedication of thousands of child advocates across Florida, captures the true spirit and commitment Florida has made to our children and youth.

The 2018 Hanging of the Hands event will take place Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Florida Capitol in Tallahassee. From now until Jan. 18, 2018, child care providers are invited to share their hand artwork photos via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #GiveUsAHand. FCRR: Early Development & Risk Study- A Ready Research Study

Do you wonder about all the people and experiences that will help your toddler be ready to learn to read at age 5? Join with other parents and a group of researchers at the Florida Center for Reading Research at Florida State University to answer these questions now! Be a part of a new study designed to uncover the secrets of children’s early language and literacy success by following their development across multiple years.  This study, funded by the National Institutes of Health, will investigate child, family, school and community influences on school readiness and early literacy for families from diverse backgrounds. Findings also will help with earlier identification of children with developmental challenges. To support this work: if you have a child ages 18-25 months old, fill out a brief survey and earn $10.
